Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team enter areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
